Sewer service in metro Atlanta: find your provider

Your city's name doesn't decide who fixes which part of your sewer line — your sewer provider does. Around Atlanta that can be a city department, a county department or an independent water and sewer authority, and neighboring towns often share one. Find your city or community below, then read the guide for its provider.

Homeowner guides by sewer provider

Each guide covers one provider: where the homeowner's part of the line ends, what the provider does when sewage backs up, who issues plumbing permits in each city it serves, and its grease and rainwater rules — with links to the provider's own pages.

All cities and communities within 40 miles of Atlanta

124 places: 99 incorporated cities and towns plus 25 unincorporated communities recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau. Where part of a place is on septic or served by a neighboring provider, the note says so. If your street isn't covered the way the table says, your sewer bill is the final word — and please tell us.

How this directory was built

The list includes every incorporated place and census-designated community in Georgia whose Census Bureau internal point lies within 40 straight-line miles of the City of Atlanta's, from the 2025 Census Gazetteer file for Georgia places. Distances are approximate. Providers, permit offices and notes come from the providers' and local governments' own websites and ordinances, checked in October 2026; the sources for each row are kept with the site's research notes and each provider guide lists its own.

A sewer provider can serve only part of a city, and some homes inside a sewered city still use septic tanks. For the general rules — what the homeowner usually owns and what the utility usually maintains — see who is responsible for your sewer line, and for an active backup, what to do first.
